Spiced Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

On a cold morning, I want a dish that’s warm and filling- and fast to prepare! Oats give you those good carbs for energy and some protein, as well as cholesterol-lowering soluble fiber. The apple adds important antioxidants and more fiber. The cinnamon helps control your blood sugar and makes everything taste great. The ground flaxseed is an excellent source of Omega-3 fats and fiber. The milk adds bone-strengthening calcium and protein, and the agave is a sweetener that has a low impact on your blood sugar level. All together, it’s a complete meal that’s great for your health!

  • 1 fuji apple, cut into small chunks
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup almond milk or nonfat milk
  • 1 tbs. ground flax seed
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. agave syrup
  1. Coat a nonstick skillet with cooking spray and place over medium-high heat until hot. Toss the apples with the cinnamon in a bowl. Add the apples to the pan and saute until soft and golden. Remove to a bowl.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the oats, milk, flax seed, cinnamon, and agave syrup. Sir to combine. Place in microwave and cook on HIGH for 2 minutes. Stir and cook another 30 seconds. Remove from microwave.
  3. Top the oatmeal with the cinnamon apples and serve.
